D2B East Power Ranking – Week 2
1. Deportivo Lara
After being in D2 for seemingly forever, it looks like Deportivo Lara are ready to compete for a spot in D1. 18 goals is top in the league, while 6 goals conceded is good for 4th. Their only dropped points have come against playoff teams, and their core is as good as advertised. Is this finally the year for Deportivo Lara?
2. Buona Notte
1 goal conceded in 8 games is incredible defensive work. Joint top of D2B at 19 points, Buona Notte has had a great start to the season. While 11 goals isn’t the best offensive output in the division, it’s more than enough with a defense like that. How long can they keep this defensive effort up?
3. DANZ FC
The former D1 team has outperformed expectations in their first season back in ACL after an extended time off. A question was to be had if this team could compete with the current restrictions in place given their past history of running tall builds all across the field. Being 2nd in the division in goals scored never hurts either.
4. GG United
The former D3 champions have had a good start in D2B so far with a +11 goal differential, good for second best in the division. GG United grabbed 10/12 points last week with the only points dropped was a draw against Buona Notte. Could GG United be the first team to ever get back to back promotions and go straight up to D1 from the very bottom?
5. Dumpies United
Sitting joint 5th in the table with 15 points, even with 3 draws is Dumpies United. Only 7 goals in 8 games is a sign for needing a new attacker, but only 5 goals conceded is good for third best in the division. Dumpies can certainly keep games close, but just need that final bit to win games and keep climbing the table.
6. Cougars SC
Cougars are a strange team to rank. Joint 5th in the table on 15 points with a win over Deportivo Lara is a good sign, but the 11 goals conceded are notably more than any team in the top 8 seeds currently. 15 goals scored is also great output, but this team needs to defend better or they will falter come playoff time against teams like Lacritas, Olympique or Buona Notte.
7. San Sharti CF
A balanced start to the season for San Sharti, with 4 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses, scoring almost twice as much as they’ve conceded. I think this team will continue to get better and will finish within the top 4-5 this season.
8. Collective FC
This is not the Collective FC of old, where each game was a 1-0 dogfight for all three points. This team has scored 12 goals and conceded 9, good for the tiebreaker into 8th place this season. A return to their old defensive ways might help keep their playoff spot intact this season.
9. Highlanders FC
A pleasant surprise this season after being in the basement of D2 for multiple seasons before, Highlanders FC sit joint 8th in the table on 12 points. When they win, they win close, but when they lose, they lose comfortably. An improvement in defense will be needed to bridge the gap and keep games closer in the case their attack can’t provide the goals.
10. Dojo FC
Dojo FC has the talent to hang around, as evidenced by a close 2-1 loss vs Deportivo Lara and a draw against San Sharti. They are also the only team outside of the top 8 with a positive goal differential. The key for this team is converting draws in to wins, as they currently have 4 draws, easily most in the league.
11. Invincible XI
This team needs a boost in attack badly. While 10 goals conceded is 9th best in the division, 2 goals puts them third worst. If this team can find a way to score, they may creep up the table as the season progresses.
12. Capoeira Futbol
Sitting in 12th with the second most amount of goals conceded, Capoeira Futbol needs to find solutions in attack and defense, as their -15 goal differential is not a recipe for success. Can this team turn it around?
13. FC Wockhardt
Sitting in last place with 0 goals scored, this team would need a miracle to make playoffs. A more realistic goal would be to score a goal or get a result going forward and try to build off that.
14. Notorious XI/Folded
Folded.
