D2 East Playoff Predictions – Round 2

From 16 teams down to 8, the D2 East playoffs are just heating up. Any team will need to win at least two series from here out to have a shot of playing in Division 1 East next season. Who will be good enough to take it home?

Coming out of D2A:

1. NB Rovers FC – Won 3-2 over Dochas FC
2. Olympique – Eliminated
3. DANZ FC – Won 6-3 over Composed XI
4. Tiburoneta (East) – Eliminated
5. Black Label FC – Eliminated
6. GG United – Won 5-4 over Pro Union
7. Punisherz – Eliminated
8. Deportivo Lara – Eliminated

Coming out of D2B:

1. Malditos Genios – Won 7-4 over Deportivo Lara
2. New Era FC – Won 3-2 over Punisherz
3. Pro Union – Eliminated
4. Cougars SC – Won 3-2 Over Black Label FC
5. San Sharti CF – Won 6-3 over Tiburoneta
6. Composed XI – Eliminated
7. Trojan XIX – Won 2-1 over Olympique
8. Dochas FC – Eliminated

 

NB Rovers FC (1A) vs. Sharti CF (5B)

NB Rovers narrowly escaped against Dochas, while Sharti CF outscored a top level Tiburoneta side. I expect Rovers to improve their game, but it might be difficult to knock off Sharti’s confidence with a lineup full of skilled players.

Prediction: Sharti CF wins 5-3

 

DANZ FC (3A) vs. Trojan XIX (7B)

It’s going to be hard to stop DANZ. After coming so close to D1 last season in their first season back, they easily dispatched an in-form Composed XI team. However, if any team is going to cause yet another upset and make this season’s fairytale run, it’ll be Trojan XIX. Coming off a huge upset over Olympique, their defense could take them all the way this season.

Prediction: DANZ FC wins 6-2

 

Malditos Genios (1B) vs. Cougars SC (4B)

Malditos Genios beat Deportivo Lara 7-4, showing how strong their attack is. While the 4 goals conceded may be a concern, this team should continue to get stronger over the course of the playoffs. Cougars knocked off a very strong Black Label FC side and have plenty of experience winning close games this season. If Cougars SC can keep this close to the end, they might steal a result at the death.

Prediction: Malditos Genios wins 4-2

 

New Era FC (2B) vs. GG United (6A)

Both teams would have expected to win their first round matchups. GG United proved why their place in the table wasn’t exactly accurate with a high-scoring win over Pro Union, while New Era FC shut down a Punisherz attack, limiting them to two goals scored over two games. New Era also faced a strong Punisherz defense and was able to put three goals past them. Expect this one to also be a high-scoring matchup.

Prediction: GG United wins 5-4
